Background

The operator managed 40 trucks with paper logs and phone calls, leaving fuel losses and route deviations undetected.

Problem

No visibility into vehicle location or fuel consumption between checkpoints, and no evidence trail for customer disputes.

Solution

GSM telemetry units publish position and sensor data on an interval and on event. The backend applies geofence rules and generates daily utilization and fuel reports.

Architecture

Challenges

  • Sparse GPS in tunnels and remote routes required path interpolation.
  • High write volume was solved with table partitioning and batched inserts.

Lessons Learned

  • Store raw telemetry forever, derive metrics on read.
  • Reports drive adoption more than live maps do.
